Many European cars mix aluminium with ultra-high-strength steels to save weight and protect you in a crash. These materials react badly to too much heat and the wrong joining methods. Manufacturers publish repair procedures that say which panels can be straightened, which must be replaced and how they should be joined, and a good repairer follows them.

Driver assistance sensors (ADAS)

Radar units, cameras and parking sensors sit behind bumpers, grilles, mirrors and windscreens. After a repair in these areas the sensors often need recalibrating to the manufacturer’s settings so features like lane-keeping, emergency braking and adaptive cruise control work correctly.
